Snow days and Paris!

Well it has been an interesting few weeks! It was nice and warm feeling like spring, then out of nowhere I woke up to over 6 inches of snow! That morning I continued to get ready for school and even walked all the way down to the bus stop in a blizzard! Come to find out there wasn’t a bus going to my school! So I got to walk back home (up two hills) and had a snow day! That next day there was even more snow on the ground so the buses weren’t all working again! This would have been perfect, except for the fact that it was Wednesday, EVERY Wednesday I have French lessons. So I got to walk to French lessons! Thankfully it warmed up to like 2 degrees and a lot of the snow started to melt! So by the next morning there was no reason for the buses to not be running…. So I though!

I LOVE BLIZZARDS! <3

There was a bus strike! So I spent the day exploring! I took a three hour walk and explored the town!!

Then Friday I walked to the bus stop all ready for school! We were supposed to have a huge celebration for 100 days till vacation! But sadly there was another strike! I called my host family and they thankfully drove me to school! : ) If not I think I would have died! I speak French with my host family, but at school I speak a lot more French so a week off of school is really bad for my French! Plus I would have missed the 100 days till vacation celebration!

Pretty much all we did was wear costumes and hangout in a park all day, but it was fun! : )
Then come Saturday I went to “Le Puls Grand Harlem Shake!” It was a lot of fun! (look for the American flag!)

Then I went to my first family’s house for a dinner! There were a bunch of us exchange students and we all brought a dish from home, or made it there! It was a lot of fun! We had Tex-Mex appetizers, an American dinner of home-made Mac and Cheese, then some Belgian and Brazilian desserts!  (Sorry, my first host family took the pictures, and I cant download them, so I wont be able to post them )

That next morning I went to the local farmers market type thing, I left to catch the bus back home, but got a bit distracted…..

This last week there was school, almost all week. Friday my French class took a trip to Paris!!  It was so much fun! It was just a quick tour or the city, we left school at 5am and got back that next morning at 2am. Aside from being sleep deprived, it was alot of fun! It also felt cool to be able to speak French in Paris!! We didn't get to see the Eiffel Tower, but we did see.....

We were supposed to go into another church that my host dad says is just amazingly beautiful, but there was a funeral going on inside it.... so we didn't get to go in and look at it! Nonetheless it was an amazing trip! I absolutely love Paris; It is so pretty and there is so much to see!

I am truly in love with my exchange and could not have asked for a better host country! Not only is Belgium a beautiful country but so are the people here! I am already dreading the day I have to leave this beautiful little country!

  1. Did you notice in Paris they speak French a little differently to the Belgians? You need to be young for a trip like you had 24hrs without sleep,I thought you were going for the weekend!I love Paris and hope to get back there before too long. Keep on doing what you are doing. Ann
